1. First and foremost, you will need to decide if you want an airsoft pistol that is powered by a spring or by gas, normally CO2. Spring airsoft pistols are generally cheaper but usually shoot the ammunition at a slower velocity. Gas guns are more expensive, but can shoot the ammo at velocities over 450 feet per second, thus making them alot more accurate.
2. Magazine size. Most of the airsoft pistols available today have a magazine that can hold up to 15-20 bb's. However, there are some models that have an oversized magazine that will hold up to 40 bb's, and this will greatly increase your odds of holding off your opponents without the need to reload your magazine. A good idea is to purchase an extra magazine for a quick reload.
3. Full metal vs. plastic. Here again, the plastic airsoft pistols will be a little less expensive, but the chances of damage to the weapon if it is dropped are increased. Full metal pistols however are more reliable and also feel just like the real thing when you have it in your hands.
4. You may want to install a laser sight onto your new airsoft pistol, so make sure that the gun has a rail for a laser sight.
5. Some pistols have a realistic blowback feature that mimics the real thing. This means that there will be more recoil and the slide action will be as if you are shooting a real pistol. This is the ultimate in airsoft pistols.
