How to wakeboard
So, you want to know how to wakeboard? Good choice, because you are about to have the time of your life! No matter if you are dedicated to achieve something in this sport or if you just want to hang out and have a good time... here are some tips you may want to consider before starting.
I'm assuming you already got the required equiment to hit the water: Most importantly of course a ski rope, a ski vest and a properly fitting wakeboard, both of which can be found at an online store like BoardStop.
You have to make sure that you are comfortably dressed. The ladies may find it easier to wear shorts that tie at the waist with a secure fitting top or a one piece (whatever you like more) to prevent embarissing moments. The guys, on the other hand, may find their swim shorts to work just fine. For both, it is necessary to war a ski vest.
Now when you want to start behind a boat, it is important to know some basic hand signals. Once you are in the water and positioned good, yell something like "HIT IT!" to show that you are ready to go. If you feel like everything is going to fast and you are not able to deal with the speed of the boat, give a thumbs down. If you want to go faster, a thumbs up. After some time, you may want to stop because you feel like your strength has gone. The signal to indicate that you want to stop is by putting your had across your neck like your slitting your throat. Before you start you should check with the captain of the boat that you both got the same understanding of hand signals because they may vary in different places.
Let us go a little bit further into what you have to keep in mind: The main point is to get standing up once the boat gets going. You should realize that the boat should be doing most of the hard work and you only need to position yourself properly in order to take advantage of the boats power - and it got well enough, trust me on that. It is helpful to keep your arms straight with your knees pulled up between them and to lean back. And no matter what you do, it is very fundamental that you keep yourself from fighting the boats power. You may want to position your board parallel with the water by pointing your toes slightly while moving into a standing position smoothly and simultaneously. I know that this may sound tricky, but with some experience it will become easier for you day by day.
Now what are you waiting for? Get your stuff and hit the water... and do not give up if you fall. Just get up again, keep on trying and you will have a lot of fun!
