Male swimsuits may not be as popular as their female counterparts but they are just as important. Ever since the rise of 'Baywatch' male swimsuits have been making a comeback on the runway, in the malls and most especially on the beach. There are few things more important to any swimming, fishing or camping trip than a pair of swimming briefs or trunks.

Briefs: Briefs are a type of short, tight Y-shaped swimwear as opposed to those that run down your legs. Briefs are popular because they more or less hold your genitals in place which makes them the perfect choice for athletic activities like competitive swimming as compared to others like boxer shorts. They can come in speedos, thongs and g-strings.
Boardshorts: These kinds of swimwear have been used originally for surfboarding and wakeboarding but have expanded beyond the confines of watersports to take the fashion world by storm. They are made from smooth polyester or nylon for them to dry very easily. Boardshorts are particularly popular in the United States where the skater punk movement has given them iconic status. Unlike briefs they go all the way down to the knees.
Lifeguard Shorts: During the mid-90s this was the hottest piece of clothing you could be found in a beach with. They were highly popular especially because of the hit TV series 'Baywatch'. They are also known more popularly as 'trunks' or 'shorts'.
