Wakeboarding, from afar, could be mistaken as water skiing by those who are not that familiar with surface water sports. It could not be helped since wake boarding was developed from water skiing, snow boarding, and surfing.
Like water skiing, the rider or wakeboarder, is towed behind a speed boat. Two differences are that the wakeboarder is standing sideways on a skateboard or snow board and the rope is attached higher, around seven feet or two meters, above the water level, to a pole or tower on the boat. The added height allows the wakeboarder to have the air and hang time to execute more tricks. This could be the major contributor to the continuing popularity of wakeboarding.
